Oh the games we play

One of Zach's favorite games now is watching me unload the dishwasher and being told what everything is. The whisk is a favorite since he can easily grab it (and I let him play with it since he won't get hurt). He also likes it when I count plates as I stack them...I feel like the count from Sesame Street...ah ah ah.

Isn't it funny that we buy kids all sorts of toys and at the early ages, they are most often happy playing with things from around the house, boxes, wrapping paper, etc. It's a good lesson to chill out, not try so hard and just let them be with you, watch you and learn from you.

2 month check up

We have a big boy! He had his 2 month check up on Monday. All is well. He was 13 pounds, 15 ounces and 24 inches long. That's 90th percentile for both height and weight. He is going to be a tall guy just like his daddy. He's also very strong...his doctor was amazed by how well he can hold his weight when you stand him up. That's because he loves have you help him stand so he can jump jump jump. Very physical...such a little boy.

giggle

He giggled for the first time yesterday. My heart just melted. Hasn't done it since but I know it's coming...can't wait until it becomes a regular thing.

Thanksgiving

We took Zach to Pittsburgh for the first time to visit for Thanksgiving. He was such a good boy in the car and really loved the new environment at my parent's house. And he just adores them! So cute to see my parents making baby faces at him and him smiling back.

Nor'easter

Zach has officially survived his first Nor'easter. The wind scared him a little bit when it was howling past his room and rattling the walls but overall he was pretty good! Plus, it meant that daddy got to be home for a 5 day weekend! Hooray for an extra set of hands, an extra voice to sing and a little extra sleep and grown-up time for me!!!! I have extreme respect for single parents and military spouses who are essentially single parents for weeks or months at a time! Man, who knew babies were so much work?! But it's worth it because he's so cute - I think that is why God makes them that way....so you don't try to give them back at 3 am!

Halloween

Zach had a great time on his first Halloween (well....he at least seemed content). The little pumpkin enjoyed some time outside in the backyard on the nice warm evening and then took a walk to see the big kids trick-or-treat.

Zach's first real bath

So his cord finally fell off last week and he got his first non-sponge bath. As you can see, he wasn't completely sure about it ....
But I'm sure once the newness of the tub and the water wears off, he'll love it.

Zach's third week

All ready to be a pumpkin tonight (this happens to be a hand-me-down outfit from mommy's baby days).

Time for a walk.

Man, that walk made me tired!

Almost a smile

Jake and Zach meet

So glad that they got to meet and enjoy each other! In fact, Zach's first real smile was at Jake last week.

Unfortunately, we lost Jake on Saturday. He will be missed terribly! He was an incredibly bright spot in our lives that burned out way too fast!

2 weeks

We decided to start this blog so that those who want regular updates and pictures on baby Zach can get them (and those that don't care to see the 10th video of him squirming, don't have to).

So Zach is 2 weeks and 1 day old today. What an adventure it has been! It is finally starting to feel real. I had been half expecting someone to come and say there had been a mistake, that we were just playing at being parents and that they were taking him back to his real parents. But it's sinking in now. Of course being needed constantly, including over and over again in the middle of the night has helped make it sink in and feel real!

He is currently sleeping extremely peacefully (as you can see). Thank God for that! Hopefully he will sleep better tonight...I'm not sure we can handle another night of up pretty much constantly from 2 am on. Good thing he's so cute!!
